Of course, the importance of safety as it pertains to preserving life in general is of utmost importance, and it reaches further than that as well. From a company perspective, it makes sense in terms of efficiency and overall cost to bring on quality drivers and train them in proper safety to avoid costs related to accidents and driver turn over.
A culture of safety
We launched Carter PRIDE in 2016 to heighten our focus on safety even more. PRIDE stands for Personal Responsibility in Driving Excellence and emphasizes safety as the primary and most vital part of good driving. Because every part of our organization takes safety seriously, drivers know they can expect support from on every level – not pressure to push the limits and take unnecessary risks.
The equipment issued to drivers through Carter Express is state-of-the-art and is thoroughly maintained in an effort to prevent breakdowns resulting from a lack of maintenance. Maintenance of equipment supports our safety goals. It is very unsafe to have our driver on the side of the road with equipment issues. We work hard to prevent that and to keep you safe.
All of our drivers that maintain good safety and performance records qualify for our quarterly bonus program that was designed to reward a job well done. As a result, drivers who make safety a priority enjoy an extra 3% of their gross income every quarter. We also increase the bonus when our drivers have four perfect safety quarters in a row: $300 for each additional perfect quarter, plus the driver becomes eligible for the quarterly drawing for a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
