In recent months, several cities across the United States have placed vaccine mandates on indoor spaces. This means that if you’re wanting to stop to get a bite to eat inside of a restaurant or visit a gym in one of these cities, you’ll need to provide proof of vaccination. As truck drivers, we’re traveling all over the country so it’s hard to stay on top of knowing which places will require you to be vaccinated and which ones will not. We’ve pulled together a current list of cities where you’ll need to show proof of vaccination in indoor spaces:
Major cities that require proof of vaccination
Washington, D.C.
Chicago, Ill.
Boston, Mass.
Philadelphia, Pa.
New York, N.Y.
San Francisco, Calif.
New Orleans, La.
Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.
Seattle, Wash.

What do you need?
Each city is managing proof of vaccinations a little differently. New York, for instance, is utilizing an app called NYC Covid Safe and the state’s Excelsior Pass to provide vaccination details and negative Covid test results. New Orleans uses Louisiana’s app called the LA Wallet app. While many locations will allow you to show a picture or photocopy of your vaccine record card, others may require you to have the card itself.

Whether or not you’re fully vaccinated depends on the city. Some cities, including New Orleans and Boston, currently require showing proof of a single dose of vaccine while other cities like New York and Philadelphia require indoor patrons to be fully vaccinated. Showing proof of a negative Covid-19 test result is acceptable in some cities, but not in all. Make sure you know what you’ll need to have before you travel.

Lastly, this is not an exhaustive list of cities that require proof of vaccinations, especially because the Covid-19 landscape is constantly changing. We expect more cities to make similar mandates in the future. It’s also important to note that even though there might not be a mandate in a city you’re visiting, businesses and restaurants may have their own vaccine policies. We recommend checking ahead of time if you plan to dine in anywhere and always have an alternative plan if you’re not fully vaccinated or prefer not to provide proof of vaccination.
