Crossdock Expansion Japanese OEM Customer

Project Description:

Carter Logistics

Carter Express was asked to provide a crossdock facility to support one of the large Japanese OEM's manufacturing division. This project involved the movement and management of freight for approximately 80 inbound and 80 outbound routes per day. This was accomplished by building a 40,000 SF addition to our current facility in Andersonville, TN. This added an additional 50 dock doors and approximately 100 trailer parking spaces, as well as 26 new team members, including clerks, dock workers, yard drivers and management.

 Challenges:

Development of processes to manage freight without previous experience or tribal knowledge. Facility construction while maintaining existing operations (Carter specific challenge).

Modification of Carter's proprietary scanning system to accept the OEM's barcodes and ASN match procedures.

Conclusion:

Carter Express has successfully launched the crossdock expansion and are currently processing 1.550 bills of lading and 7,000 skids per week. Of the 1.550 bills processed each week,92% of them are handled automatically via ASN match in our scanning system (8% abnormal management due to supplier non compliance). The Carter scanning system identifies freight and provides instructions to convey to the appropriate staging area or to an already opened outbound trailer for that freight's destination.

Ongoing Project:

Carter Logistics has developed a shared routing model which will be implemented for this OEM customer in September of 2020. In this model, Carter Logistics reduces overall miles & spend by incorporating freight from other OEMs and suppliers in to the system. Annual projected savings for this project is over $1.2M as well as an environmental reduction of over 230,000 gallons of diesel fuel. 2600 US Tons of CO2 and 6 US Tons of NOX.
